Bringing Rio to the Retail Aisle
If summer had a signature look, it might look a lot like Sol de Janeiro.
From its vibrant visual identity and signature scents to its immersive pop-ups and activations, the brand has built a world that invites shoppers to step in, explore and be part of the experience. It’s a powerful example of how brands are moving beyond simply selling products to create distinctive worlds that people can recognize, experience, and connect with.
So, when it came to bringing Sol de Janeiro’s world of bold, playful energy to the shelves at Boots, the challenge was clear: how do you capture the energy of the brand and translate it into the everyday retail journey?
The answer started with the fixture.
To refresh Sol de Janeiro’s presence across Boots stores, our teams worked closely with the brand to bring its DNA to the retail floor. We designed, manufactured, and installed custom gondolas and end caps, transforming the existing footprint into a stronger expression of the Sol de Janeiro brand world. From the curved edges and iconic yellow finishes to the integrated lighting and merchandising trays, every detail was designed to bring its warmth and Brazilian-inspired aesthetic to life.
But this project also reflects a wider shift in physical retail. As brands invest more deeply into immersive pop-ups, events and activations, the thinking behind those experiences is beginning to influence the everyday store.
Retail is becoming more than a place to display products. Increasingly, it is another stage for brand storytelling – one where colour, materials, lighting, form and sensory cues can work together to create recognition, emotion and connection at the point of discovery. That matters because shoppers increasingly expect more from physical stores. In a world where almost any product can be discovered or purchased through a screen, physical retail has an opportunity to offer something digital channels cannot fully replicate: a tangible, sensory encounter with a brand.
And that opportunity doesn’t have to begin with a huge flagship or a weekend pop-up. It can happen in the middle of a retail aisle. The same principles that make an activation memorable can be translated into permanent retail touchpoints. A gondola, end cap or shop-in-shop can do more than organise and present products. Done well, it can become a small piece of the brand world – designed around the visual, tactile and sensory cues that make that brand distinctive.
For Sol de Janeiro, that meant bringing the joy and spirit of the brand into Boots stores and embedding it into the everyday shopping experience, beyond the lifespan of a single campaign. Because experiential retail isn’t defined by the size of the space or how temporary it is. It is about how effectively a physical environment makes a brand feel tangible – and gives shoppers a reason to stop, explore and engage.
At Array Marketing, we help brands translate their identities into physical retail experiences – combining creative design, engineering, manufacturing and execution to turn a brand idea into something shoppers can see, touch and experience. Whether it’s a gondola, a larger-than-life activation or an entirely immersive retail environment, the opportunity is the same: make every physical touchpoint work harder for the brand.
